On July 29, 2026, Lockheed Martin reported that it supported the U.S. Navy and Australian forces during Exercise Taipan Strike 26, where they tested the Medium Range Ground-Based Air Defense (MRGBAD) prototype. Held at Australia’s Woomera Test Range, the demonstration showcased the integration of a mobile launcher, an advanced radar, and the Virtualized Aegis Weapon System.
The MRGBAD project is designed to enhance middle-layer ground and area air defense. It can function as a standalone system or integrate directly into the Australian Defense Force’s broader air and missile defense network.
