On July 3, 2026, Finland announced that it will procure short-range RBS 70 NG ground-based air defense systems from Saab. The modernized system is engineered to counter both unmanned and manned aerial vehicles, effectively expanding the operational range and the variety of airborne targets the Finnish military can neutralize.

The announcement specified that the procurement package encompasses munitions, training equipment, and an integrated maintenance system valued at US$123 million (EUR 108 million). Full operational capability for the newly acquired air defense units is projected to be achieved before 2030.
