The U.S. Marine Corps has chosen Raytheon to supply new radars for its fleet of F/A-18C/D Hornet fighter jets, reports the defense firm.
The deal cover AN/APG-79(v)4 radars, a scaled version of the APG-79 active electronically scanned array radar, which is integrated on the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter and EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft.
The new radars will improve targeting capabilities, allowing Marine pilots to identify, track and engage targets at greater range.
The system will also improve reliability and reduce maintenance while increasing flight availability, the company said.
Deliveries are slated to begin in 2020 and finish by 2022, said a company release.
The value of the contract was not announced.
