Border Closed With Somalia In Lamu Due To Al-Shabaab Threat

The Kenyan government has shut its border with Somalia in the Lamu region as it steps up security operations against the Al-Shabaab terrorist group, reports the Daily Nation (Nairobi).

The border will only be open to security officers for an indefinite period, said Muchangi Kioi, the police chief for Lamu county.

The government has also prohibited residents in border villages from cross-border trade, officials said.
