armed forces structure

Luxembourg's armed forces consist solely of one light infantry battalion and two reconnaissance companies (one assigned to the Eurocorps division, the other to the NATO pool) with a combined total of 900 troops. A paramilitary gendarmerie of 600 personnel also exists. A 1967 law made the Army an all-volunteer force. Enlistment is for a minimum of three years. There is no organized reserve system.
