OVERVIEW

Greece began a two-part reorganization program in 2002 to transform the army into a leaner and more efficient service. The changes called for 148 army formations to be disbanded and 276 to be reorganized.

The new army is organized as follows:

   3 military regions
  1 army HQ (Hellenic 1st Army)
      4 army corps (with 13 field units)
      1 infantry division HQ
      1 infantry division
      1 infantry brigade, with
        1 armored battalion
        3 infantry...
