Note: As this goes to press, the organization of Syria's military, total troop numbers, and the nation's weapon inventory are in question due to the civil conflict. A number of brigades and units are reported to have been disbanded because of either political unreliability or heavy casualties, so it is highly unlikely that the organizational structures described below remain unchanged.
