OVERVIEW Lebanon is bordered north and east by Syria, south by Israel and west by the Mediterranean Sea. There is a broad spectrum of religions in Lebanon, including Maronite Christians, Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims, Greek Orthodox and Druze. After its 16-year civil war ended in October 1990, Lebanon made substantial progress toward rebuilding its political, economic and military infrastructure.
