Traditionally, the regular Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) have come under the purview of the minister of defense, but the country's overall military policies are in the hands of the president as chief commanding officer. The Cabinet functions as a higher defense council in overseeing the Army.
In descending order, the unified military command structure consists of the commander in chief, the chief of general staff, four deputy chiefs of staff, and various directorates.
