OVERVIEW

After a major downturn following the end of the Cold War, the Russian navy has steadily rebuilt its capabilities. In addition to its traditionally strong submarine fleet, the navy has been acquiring new surface combat vessels, fixing a major weakness in the post-Cold War fleet.
