According to the Pentagon's 2020 report to Congress on China's military power, the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) boasts over 2,500 aircraft (not including UAVs), of which 2,000 are fighters, bombers and attack aircraft. Most of these combat aircraft platforms are of second- and third-generation technology, but a growing number of fourth-generation (4G) types will tilt the PLAAF into a 4G majority fighter force soon.
