OVERVIEW

Madagascar's army is responsible for land operations and ground-based air defense. The air force provides all air support.

The army is currently divided into intervention forces and development forces. The intervention forces are the main combat units of the army. The development forces deal with internal security and support for the civilian population. The army was planning changes to its structure as of 2009. The status of those plans is unavailable.
