Background
Cameroon was formally established as a nation in 1961 following the merger of French Cameroon and British Cameroon. Relative to other nations in central sub-Saharan Africa, Cameroon's political environment has remained stable. The stability of the government is, in part, a result of a balanced heterogeneous population and consistent – albeit low – levels of economic growth.
