The Republic of Botswana is a landlocked nation bordered by Zambia to the north, Namibia to the north and west, South Africa to the south and Zimbabwe to the east.
Since independence from Britain in 1966, Botswana has boasted Africa's longest continuous multiparty democratic government. The president, elected by the Parliament, has been a member of the Botswana Democratic Party since independence.
