22 ROMEO-class SUBMARINES (SS) (Russian ROMEO-class design)
description
The Romeo is a Soviet-designed, medium-range, conventionally powered submarine. The first four units were transferred from China in 1973/1974; the remainder being built at Korea's Mayang Do shipyard. The 18 units built at Mayang Do completed between 1973 and 1995. Construction was halted in 1995 in favor of the SANG-O class coastal submarines (SSC ).
