These river patrol craft were built in the United States for transfer to Thailand. A total of 37 were transferred. Twenty were transferred in 1966/1967, 10 in 1972 and seven in 1973.

The PBR Mark 2 design was intended for high-speed river patrols in combat areas. These craft are heavily armed and the crew areas are protected by ceramic armor.
