AWAJI (MSO-304) class Weapon Systems // Ships // Mine Warfare

The AWAJI-class minesweepers are in service with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF). They replaced the YAEYAMA-class minesweepers. The ships are tasked with rapidly clearing large numbers of mines in Japanese home waters as well as clearing ports for the delivery of troops and supplies.  HULL: The ships of the AWAJI-class have a fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) hull. This reduces the chance of the vessel setting off mines that incorporate magnetic detonators and reduces vessel signature....
