The INDEPENDENCE-class Littoral Mission Vessels (LMVs) were ordered in 2013 to replace the Singapore navy's FEARLESS-class ships (see separate record). The LMVs are designed for a variety of maritime security operations. Different mission modules can be quickly integrated for various missions, such as maritime security, mine-clearance, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
