The frigates of the FRIDTJOF NANSEN class replace the OSLO-class frigates. The design derives from the Spanish ALVARO DE BAZAN class of frigates equipped with the Aegis air defense system. Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Navy are conducting final systems integration. While having sophisticated sensor and combat data systems, the ships are very lightly armed.
