The DARING (Type 45) class is the largest and most powerful air defense destroyer operated by the Royal Navy. Vessels of this class are the largest general-purpose warships (excluding aircraft carriers and amphibious ships) to join the fleet since World War II. The class provides the fleet with an air defense capability several times greater than offered by the SHEFFIELD-class (Type 42) destroyers, which have all been removed from service.
