The MONTMAGNY was a navigational aid tender with a strengthened bow to cut through thin ice. Buoys were stowed in the forward hold, which was serviced by a 7-ton capacity crane. She was unarmed.

The MONTMAGNY was operated by the Canadian coast guard with a civilian crew. While active, she was based at Sorel, Quebec, Laurentian Region....
