The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service ordered eight CAPE-class patrol boats in June 2011 to replace its aging BAY-class vessels. The new boats provide greater range and surveillance capabilities than the BAY class . They are also able to operate in more severe sea conditions than their predecessors.
