The TARLAC class amphibious ship is a modified design based on the Indonesian MAKASSAR class. The two vessels were ordered in June 2014 to fulfill the Philippine navy's strategic sealift vessel (SSV) requirement. Each landing platform dock has a large medical facility and can transport approximately 500 troops, along with a number of vehicles and two helicopters.
