The aircraft carriers of the QUEEN ELIZABETH class are the biggest and most powerful surface warships ever built for the Royal Navy. The July 1998 Strategic Defense Review in the U.K. confirmed a plan to build two new aircraft carriers for the Royal Navy. These two future aircraft carriers (CVF) are planned as replacements for the three INVINCIBLE-class carriers. The last of these, INVINCIBLE, was decommissioned on Aug. 28, 2014.
