IZUMO-class helicopter carrier

The IZUMO class was designed as a replacement for Japan's aging SHIRANE-class helicopter-carrying destroyers. The SHIRANE-class ships were decommissioned as the IZUMO-class vessels entered service. Larger than the HYUGA class, the vessels resemble light carriers more than traditional destroyers.
