The Nagan is an indigenously developed passive/active towed-array sonar under development for the Indian navy to improve its anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
The low-frequency sonar is designed to equip surface vessels operating in shallow waters against modern diesel submarine threats.
The system consists of a sensor array made up of hydrophones placed at equidistant intervals. It is capable of long-range detection and classification of vessels at variable depths.
