The AN/SQS-505 is an active search-and-attack sonar for surface ships. The sonar comes in retractable hull-mounted, non-retractable hull-mounted, bow-dome and variable depth sonar (VDS) configurations.

Most Canadian ships use the VDS and retractable hull-mounted versions in combination. Ships of other navies are fitted with the bow-dome or either of the hull-mounted versions.
