The FCS -3 is an active phased-array radar system in service with the Japanese navy. It consists of four fixed C-band arrays, which use gallium arsenide (GaAs) transmit/receive modules. It is said to be capable of tracking 300 targets at a range of 124 mi (200 km).
The radar was originally designed to guide Japanese AAM-4 missiles, but this plan was cancelled in favor of the Raytheon Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM ).
Each FCS -3 can reportedly control up to 16 ESSMs...
