The Type 704 is an I/J-band radar operating in the 8 to 20 GHz range used for weapon location and fire correction. It is used to locate enemy guns, howitzers, mortars and rocket launchers as well as tracking the accuracy of friendly artillery, providing aiming correction based on impact error. Simi lar to the U.S. AN/TPQ-37 Firefinder (see "Issues," below), the system is unlikely incapable of tracking rocket-assisted projectiles due to their non-ballistic trajectory.
