Schermuly infrared (IR) decoy or smoke grenades are used to screen ground vehicles from enemy thermal imagers, optical and electro-optical devices, and laser rangefinders. The grenades are launched from the rear of the vehicle.
The grenades consist of a L58 grenade base, with an electrical jackplug contact, and the payload. They create a cloud between the vehicle and enemy positions within three seconds, providing both IR and visual screening. The grenades are fired in a salvo...
