The Arena active protection system is designed to defend tanks and armored fighting vehicles from rocket-propelled grenades, rockets and anti-tank missiles.

The system consists of detection and control equipment, including a radar, control computer, commander's control panel and command transformation units; mounting silos; and defensive munitions. The entire system requires less than 1 kW of power to operate. It weighs between 2,200 lb (1,000 kg) and 2,870 lb (1,300 kg).
