SOSTAR (stand-off surveillance and target acquisition radar)

SOSTAR (stand-off surveillance and target acquisition radar) was designed for surveillance of a large area at long-range.

The aircraft that carried the SOSTAR were to fly at high altitudes and look to one side, continuously monitoring a wide area with a moving target indicator (MTI) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) modes. Special interest areas could be scanned more thoroughly with fast sector scan or can be imaged using the spotlight mode.
