The ECR-90 was selected for the European Fighter Aircraft (EFA) -- later renamed Eurofighter Typhoon -- after a protracted and divisive selection process (see "Issues," below). Also known as CAPTOR-C, the Typhoon's main radar sensor is a coherent, pulse-Doppler, multimode radar using wideband spread-spectrum transmission, a mechanically scanned antenna designed to be very agile and a programmable signal processor co-developed with Ericsson of Sweden.
