The SS-4 Sandal was a medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) developed in the 1950s (the Soviet designation was R-12). The Soviet Union deployed 608 SS-4s during peak production. All 149 remaining SS-4s in service were dismantled under the 1987 Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty.
