The MDM-1 is an electromagnetic and acoustic influence bottom mine; it was originally designated DM-1.

A two-channel influence exploder, with a timing device and ship counter, the MDM-1 can be launched by submarines traveling at up to 8 kts or surface ships moving at up to 15 knots.

The explosive charge is equivalent to 2,470 lb (1,120 kg) of TNT. It can be deployed in waters that is 39-394 ft (12-120 m) deep. The mine self-destructs after a pre-set period of time.
