M-26 contact mine

This was a moored, medium contact mine. Minimum distance between mines was 180 ft (54 m). The M-26 was based on a different design than the M-08, M-12 and M-16. It used a PLT firing mechanism. The PLT detonated the mine when a disturbance moved the trigger shaft out of position.

The M-26 was deployed by releasing the mine case into the water, allowing it to settle on the bottom. The mine was then released from the anchor. Due to this type of deployment, the M-26 could not be used...
