The EM-57 is a submarine-launched, remote-controlled mine. It utilizes either an acoustic/magnetic or magnetic-induction fuze.
The weapon is designed to destroy surface ships and submarines. It can be activated by the controlling submarine at a range of up to 19 mi (30 km).
The mine comes in two variants, designated Type 500 and Type 1000, which differ primarily in size. The weapon is armed with a TNT warhead.
