The KN-11 is a North Korean-built submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) modeled after the Soviet R-27 .
The missile has a two-stage, solid-rocket motor. Early tests of the weapon were with liquid-fueled engines.
The KN-11 has been used with the SINPO-class submarines.
Although capable of carrying conventional explosives, and potentially biological or chemical warheads, analysts believe that North Korea sees the KN-11 as a strategic nuclear weapon.
