The SS-N-20 Sturgeon was the first Soviet solid-propellant submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) to be produced in quantity (see "Issues" below) and was the largest Soviet/Russian SLBM deployed. The missile was reported to have had significant development problems. The complete submarine weapon system was known as the D-19 complex. The missile was carried in Russian TYPHOON-class submarines.
