The first Soviet solid-fuel submarine launched ballistic missile (SLBM), the SS-N-17 Snipe was deployed in only one modified YANKEE-class ballistic-missile submarine. This missile was also the first with a post-boost vehicle (PBV) or "bus" to aim the single re-entry vehicle. Despite its improved accuracy, the SS-N-17 was not deployed beyond the one unit.
