The SS-8 Sasin was smaller and more accurate than the earlier SS-6 Sapwood or SS-7 Saddler intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). The limited production run of only 23 missiles (of which only 19 were deployed) may have reflected a return to nonstorable-liquid rockets which, while burning more consistently, limited launch flexibility.
