The SS-6 was the world's first operational ICBM with a first flight in August 1957, and an initial operational capability in 1961 at the Plesetsk launch facility. It had a 3-megaton nuclear warhead and was propelled by highly unstable liquid fuel (liquid oxygen and kerosene propellant). It was the first ICBM to have a 5-megaton warhead.
