This is one of a trio of fourth-generation Soviet/Russian ICBMs. The SS-19 differs from the SS-17 and SS-18 in being "hot-launched" from inside its silo, using its first stage to eject. Of the three types, the SS-19 was deployed in the greatest numbers.
The missile is a long, thick cylinder with a rounded conical nose. It is transported in a canister, which is lowered into the silo, and provides some protection against hot launch damage (when fired inside the silo).
