The SS-18 Satan (known as the R-36 in Russia) is the largest operational ICBM in service with any nation and the largest ever to achieve initial operational capability (IOC). It is a two-stage liquid-fuel cold-launch missile that was first deployed in several variants in the 1970s and 1980s, including four with multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicles (MIRVs) and two with single warheads.
