The BM-14-17 multiple rocket system and the similar BM-14-16 fire the same 140-mm rocket. The BM-14-17 launcher has a 17-tube arrangement, a row of eight over a row of nine, mounted on a GAZ-63A (4 X 4) truck.

Both are used to provide fire support for Motorized Rifle divisions. The system can fire high-explosive (HE) fragmentation, smoke and GB chemical rockets (the latter has been phased out of service).
