The RBK-500 (razovaya bombovaya kasseta,"one-use bombing cartridge") is designed to carry a wide variety of bomblets, including the AO-2.5 and PTAB-2.5, allowing it to be used in many different roles, including anti-personnel, anti-material, anti-armor and runway cratering missions.

The weapon is designed to withstand high g-forces that may result from the evasive maneuvers of the high-speed aircraft that carry it.
