Developed in tandem with the Hatf-1 short-range ballistic missile (SRBM), the Hatf-2 (Deadly) may also have been referred to as the Shadoz (King Hawk ).
In later years, the missile has been named Abdali, after Ahmed Shah Abdali, credited with founding the kingdom of Afghanistan and invading India repeatedly, beginning in 1747.
