The S-8 family of unguided rockets was designed in the 1970s to provide a range of weapons for ground-attack missions.
Initial development focused on four types: the S-8KO (high-explosive anti-tank), S-8B (penetration), S-8D (fuel-air explosive) and S-8O (illumination). See "Variants" below for more information.
The S-8 is a standard 80-mm rocket with a solid-propellant motor and six rectangular fins that open behind the engine. The rocket has a burn time of 0.7 seconds.
