The ASM-3 is a Japanese anti-ship missile designed to significantly upgrade Japan's air-launched anti-ship capabilities. It is the first supersonic anti-ship missile in domestic production.
Japan's existing Type 80 (ASM-1) and Type 93 (ASM-2) anti-ship missiles may be replaced by the ASM-3, which features a significantly higher maximum speed over its predecessors. The higher speed allows the missile a greater chance of evading the target ship's defenses.
