The original Hsiung Feng (Brave Wind) was a Taiwanese variant of the Israeli Gabriel 2 system with a range of 22 mi (35 km). It came in coastal defense and ship-borne versions. The missile was believed to incorporate some Taiwanese design improvements. The Hsiung Feng 1 was installed on Taiwan's CHIEN YANG-class and LO YANG-class destroyers, which have since been withdrawn from service.
